10. The Gang Gets Back Together - Spaced

The sitcom that would launch the Cornetto Trilogy and careers of Messrs Wright, Pegg, and Frost, Spaced remains among the best things the trio have produced, and a big part of that comes from its finale, Leaves.

The show is heading towards something of a downer ending. The group have all gone their separate ways, they’ve grown-up and moved on. Isn’t that life?

But then, in a frantic, desperate bid, it all comes back together. Before you know it, Mike is breaking down the door to Brian’s flat, who then goes on to get (some) acclaim for a painting. Mike is then stealing a tank(!), and delivering a huge, Say Anything-inspired moment to Marsha. Tim, meanwhile, realises he belongs with Daisy, and the show closes out with the pair of them together, on the floor of their home, with the dog, of course, and happy for now.

We may not know where their lives would lead them. It’s not all going to be perfect or easy. But in these closing moments, after the anguish of them all almost leaving, we get to imagine it will be, and that’s the true beauty of Spaced’s ending.
