Like almost every actor, Jon Hamm's career could have taken a completely different path at one stage. In High School he excelled in the performing arts, but was also attracting as much attention for his athletic prowess. Growing up in St. Louis, Hamm was his team's star linebacker and had both the ability and the build to play the position at a professional level. When the time came to go to college, he was offered his choice of football scholarships from a smattering of prestigious Ivy League institutes, but instead opted for the University of Texas where he planned to study English. His sporting background even helped him land the lead role in Disney's film Million Dollar Arm, which although being about baseball still give Hamm a chance to call on his experiences of growing up with athletic expertise. Away from acting he still regularly speaks of his love of the sport, as both a player and a fan.
