13 Inspirational Quotes From Each Incarnation Of Doctor Who
4. The Ninth Doctor
"You lot, you spend all your time thinking about dying, like you're gonna get killed by eggs, or beef, or global warming, or asteroids. But you never take time to imagine the impossible. Like maybe you survive." - The End Of The World
Christopher Eccleston's performance as the ninth incarnation of the Doctor is yet another interpretation of the character which is described as 'darker' and 'edgier' than others and, while it's true his performance lends the role a certain degree of gravitas that other actors had failed to bring to the table, his Doctor is actually more of an optimist than previous incarnations. This line from 2005's 'The End of the World' gives viewers a glimpse into the psyche of the newly regenerated Doctor. The entire 2005 series allowed fans a look at the new Doctor for a new generation and what they saw was a lonely man, mourning for the loss of his people and planet. In spite of all this, though, viewers were often given the opportunity to see the Doctor at his most hopeful and wide-eyed. What makes Eccleston so inspirational in the role is this duality of character; simultaneously bitter yet hopeful. Yet again the Doctor is shown as a man of contradictions, making his innocent faith in the indomitable nature of humanity all the more inspirational.
