13 Reasons Why: 10 Overlooked Positives To The Show
1. The Performances Are Outstanding
Finally, say whatever you want about 13 Reasons Why. You can criticise its confused narrative, problematic moments and generally imperfect delivery all you like, but it's useless to deny that the performances across the board are magnificent.
Katherine Langford's heart-breaking performance as Hannah Baker is the obvious standout, but all the actors have done a terrific job.
Dylan Minnette is fantastic as Clay despite how badly written the character has been recently, Justin Prentice (Bryce) and Timothy Granaderos (Monty) were superb as the two main villains and Alisha Boe (Jessica) and Devin Druid (Tyler) gave emotionally devastating performances as traumatized sexual assault survivors.
Meanwhile, Ross Butler (Zach), Christian Navarro (Tony), Brandon Flynn (Justin) and Miles Heizer (Alex) have all provided excellent supporting turns. Even Grace Saif, who played Ani, the show's weakest character to date, gave a very good performance. Seriously, how did one show get so many brilliant young actors on-board?
Young actors are hit-or-miss at the best of times, so it's wonderful to see so many talented ones all in one place.
