6. Dead To Me Season 2

There is always a risk when a second season is produced to a show that had a stellar first year. Increasingly, we are seeing that some of the newer shows appearing on streaming services hit the ground running - Dead To Me was very much one of these shows.

The high-stakes mystery that unraveled throughout the first year kept the action pumping all the way to the cliffhanger ending, though this was not the big draw. The two leads, Jen and Judy, played by Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini in a career best for both, are the magnetic pull of this show.

Jen is full of rage and grief, continuing with this into the second year while trying to be the best mother and realtor that she can. Judy is full of kindness and compassion - though this may be the undoing of both of them.

The second season reveals its twists slowly over the course of ten episodes, while also carefully expanding on the quirks and eccentricities of the leads. This never feels forced, nor does either lead suffer for it. The show is definitely all the better for the additional episodes, offering two near perfect years of comedy drama.

The backstories of the characters don't feel shoved into the action. Their histories of abuse and trauma play as much a current role as the events on screen. One to catch, though make sure you catch the first season!
