Dame Barbara Windsor was obviously most famous for her long-running role as Peggy Mitchell in iconic British soap EastEnders, but she also had a rather fun connection to the Doctor Who world as well.

In the 2006 episode Army Of Ghosts - the first half of Series 2's two-part finale - the actress had a cameo where she was actually in-character as Peggy, acting in an episode of EastEnders set within the Doctor Who world.

The Tenth Doctor comes across this episode as he flicks through the TV channels with Jackie and Rose, watching as Peggy tells one of the titular ghosts (which are later revealed to be Cybermen) to "get out of my pub!"

Apparently, Windsor knew Peggy so well that she even had some input into her dialogue, offering advice to writer Russell T Davies that he happily took onboard.

Windsor passed away on 10 December, aged 83.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
