15 Greatest Comic Book Cartoons Of All Time

8. Superman: The Animated Series

Superman: The Animated Series is widely regarded as being one of the most faithful adaptations of the Kryptonian to date, and it helped greatly in modernising Superman for a new audience. It was brought to television screens by industry legend Bruce Timm, and the show first began as a series of short spin-offs from the acclaimed Batman animation. It later supported four whole seasons, later paving the way for a Justice League cartoon. The show explored a great deal of complex and mature themes throughout its run, with plenty of action and humour thrown into the mix as well. It's some of DC's finest work in storytelling and drama, and in one episode entitled 'The Late Mr Kent', it touched upon murder, identity and capital punishment. Astonishing stuff, especially for a Saturday morning cartoon. It retained that trademark animation quality, which Warner Bros. is renowned for. Looking back on the cartoon today, it's as if the show hasn't aged a single day. It looks so incredibly stylish and clean. Superman: The Animated Series is the definitive version of the character, and it easily the same equivalent to Batman's much-loved 90s cartoon. Evidently, it had learnt a few lessons from DC's previous work, and it's a shame we haven't seen such a depiction of the character in so long.
