20 Best Superhero TV Show Performances Ever
12. Adam West As Bruce Wayne/Batman
Over the years there have been so many different iterations of live action Bruce Wayne. From the traditional Batmen of Ben Affleck, Christian Bale, and Michael Keaton, to the iterations before and after Bruce Wayne in his prime from David Mazouz in Gotham, and Iain Glen in Titans. Before all of these however, came Adam West.
In a time when superhero TV shows and movies were years and years away from the kind of mainstream prominence they enjoy today, Batman was unique, and gained an incredibly following, even earning itself a movie in 1966. The majority of the appeal in truth came down to Adam West.
Compared to today's superhero properties, Batman was as campy as anything, obviously lacking CGI and any real budget, and nowhere near the grittier tone the dark knight takes on today. Through all this, and the often awful acting of those around him, West managed to maintain the overall feel of the show, while managing to give a genuinely compelling performance.
It would have been easy to phone in a performance when his character was being saved by noble porpoises and shark repellent spray, but Adam West gave his all to making a genuinely strong iteration of the character.
