20 Things You Didn't Know About Gilmore Girls

1. There Was Almost No Luke Danes And Almost No Paris Gellar

It’s impossible to imagine Gilmore Girls without Paris or Luke. They may have been two different characters who rarely interacted with each other on show but in their own ways, they contributed greatly to the series.

The character of Luke was originally going to be a background character named Daisy who ran the town's main diner. The producers felt as though the series needed ‘just a little bit more testosterone’ so they changed Daisy to Luke. And after realising how much they liked his character and the chemistry between him and Lorelai, he was made a series regular. Luke was a great asset to Stars Hollow, the perfect man for Lorelai and a great father figure for Rory.

Meanwhile, actress Liza Weil auditioned for the part of Rory but lost out to Alexis Bledel. Creator Amy Sherman-Palladino liked her so much that she wrote the role of Paris Gellar, specifically for Weil. Paris turned out to be one of the best characters of the show – complex, funny, memorable and a great friend/rival to Rory.

Suffice to say, we love the Gilmores but the show wouldn't be complete without the gentle giant Luke Danes or the brutally honest Paris Gellar.
