Alan Scarfe appeared in three episodes of Star Trek. Two of his appearances were as Romulans in The Next Generation - he played Mendak in Data's Day, and Tokath in Birthright, Pt II. His final appearance was in Star Trek: Voyager as Augris, in the second season episode Resistance.

Scarfe's distinctive slow style of speech originated in his theatre days. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, which led not only to a long career on stage but also in directing other actors as well.

Scarfe turned his talents to writing, not content with a career as an actor and director. He published four satire novels, all of which had a staggered journey to wide release. He originally published them under the pseudonym 'Clanash Farjeon' (an anagram of his name) but they are all now available under his given name.

Scarfe was married to Barbara Marsh, of Lursa fame, until her death from cancer in 2019.

He was 77 years old when he died.
