12. International Electromatics Rise Of The Cybermen
Its pretty hard to miss this one since its both mentioned in dialogue and staring you in the face in some shots but the obscurity of the reference certainly qualifies it as an Easter Egg. In Petes World, Cybus Industries uses International Electromatics as a dummy company to hide the mass abduction of the homeless that it is using to build its army of Cybermen. The name drop of International Electromatics in Series 2 was an homage to the 1968 story The Invasion where it was a consumer electronics company run by Tobias Vaughn, a businessman colluding with the Cybermen and assisting their invasion of Earth in exchange for him becoming its ruler after their takeover was complete.
11. Here It Is, Merry Christmas Various Episodes
One of the most common things youll hear at Christmas (apart from constant arguing over Christmas Dinner) is Slades 1973 hit Merry Xmas Everyone. Its everywhere. Even in Doctor Who. The three Christmas Specials predominantly set on present day Earth, Turn Left, and The Power Of Three all feature scenes that have Merry Xmas Everyone playing in the background at some point; usually at the very start. Although you barely notice it (maybe were just desensitised to it after forty-one years), its always there as a subtle mood setter thanks to it being so instantly recognisable. And because of that, its quickly become as big a part of Doctor Who Christmas episodes as alien invasion and violent death.
