25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

24. The 100

The X Files
The CW

The most mature series to ever grace The CW, The 100 is the perfect example of how to successfully adapt a YA dystopian novel without falling victim to truncated narratives, budgetary concerns or the worst of the YA tropes.

Giving us a glimpse of what humanity looks like 97 years after a nuclear apocalypse, the series initially follows the 100 prisoners of the Arc - a giant space-station designed to sustain humanity above earth that is slowly dying - as they're sent to the planet to see if its habitable. From there, it snowballs, and what once seemed like a small-screen Avatar quickly becomes more Predator than anything else, as the humans attempt to survive the onslaught of what was awaiting them on the ground.

A well-told story of evolution after the world has had to rebuild itself, The 100 is a gritty tale in which survival of the fittest rings true more than ever, as humanity has to coexist with itself and a ton of other dangers that the nuclear apocalypse has left behind. And it balances its sci-fi premise with its fantasy elements (and even a little teen angst) really well.
