The first of the new Marvel Cinematic Universe television shows to debut on Disney+, The Falcon And The Winter Soldier may have the world’s least imaginative title but it looks to be a gamechanging entry in the MCU field.

For a start, this six-episode run is the first time a Marvel TV show has been a true MCU entry. Others have had links, or references to MCU events, but TFATWS (nope, still terrible) will be the first to directly continue MCU storylines and characters as a direct sequel to what we’ve seen in the cinema, featuring leads taken directly from the films.

This will also be the proving ground for the MCU on Disney+ - if it doesn’t work, the other MCU shows that Marvel Studios have scheduled will need some significant reworking.

All that and we get a masked Helmut Zemo, Sharon Carter and the possibility of a black Captain America - although they don’t appear to be all-in on that passing of the torch, given the (still terrible) title of the show.

This has the potential to be fantastic television - if the relatively inexperienced Malcolm Spellman can pull it off as a first time showrunner.
