25 Most Hotly Anticipated New TV Shows Of 2020
17. Invincible
Snapped up by Amazon Prime, comics author Robert Kirkman's ultraviolent paean to the weird and wonderful hijinks of the Silver Age of comics is coming to television as an animated hour-long TV show, with a frankly mindboggling cast.
Starring Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, a supposedly normal teenager whose father Nolan (voiced by the great J.K. Simmons) just so happens to be the most powerful superhero in the world, if Invincible keeps to the story of Kirkman’s peerlessly violent comic book then it promises to be like no other superhero property on television.
Although the homage to the comics of the sixties and seventies is deeply felt and not played ironically, the source material managed to inflect all those wild gadgets and crazy costumes and origin stories with a healthy modern sensibility and some wild narrative twists and turns.
And it’s really, really violent. Might have mentioned that already… but hey, Kirkman is the writer behind The Walking Dead comic book, so it’s probably to be expected. Adapted properly, Invincible has the potential to be the sleeper hit of 2020.
