19. Martha Getting Cloned And Then Chatting To Herself As She Dies

Life as the Doctor's coveted companion is hard enough at the best of times but it was a particularly turbulent affair for poor old Martha Jones who spent the majority of her initial TARDIS tenure trying to escape the shadow of her persistent predecessor, Rose Tyler. She bid the Doctor adieu after just one series - owing to the fact that he'd flat out refused to acknowledge her as an actual human being - and even the writers felt the need to make up for her mistreatment because they gave fans two versions of her for the price of one upon her subsequent return in Series 4. To cut a long story short, Martha ended up getting cloned by the Sontarans who then used her demonic doppelgänger to infiltrate UNIT. The clone died eventually but at least the real Martha was there to hold her hand. "You never know how long you've got," she told her counterpart, before dying seconds later. Touché. The whole thing was just very confusing.
