28 Doctor Who Actors Who Died In 2022
10. Ann Davies
Ann Davies was born in November 1934, and appeared in the First Doctor serial The Dalek Invasion Of Earth. This serial is of course most notable for being the final outing for Carole Ann-Ford's Susan, yet Davies' character of Jenny was involved in something of a tug-of-war behind-the-scenes.
Verity Lambert had originally written the character as 'Saida', who was at one time being considered as a replacement for Susan in the TARDIS. However, the offer for the renewal of the series following Ford's departure was withdrawn during salary negotiations with William Hartnell, William Russell, and Jaqueline Hill. Forced to capitulate, Saida was rewritten to be a one-shot guest, and Davies got the part.
Davies was also a close friend of Jaqueline Hill, and was interviewed as part of a tribute to her. While Davies would not return to Doctor Who, Jenny would. Davies's daughter, Lucy Briers, recreated her mother's role as part of the Big Finish audio dramas.
Davies died on April 26th. She was 87 years old.
