5 Television Dramas That Have Aired Well Past Their Prime

2. NCIS

NCIS1a I know that many will be disappointed with hit crime drama series NCIS on this list, but please keep an open mind. NCIS is certainly one of the best shows on television, but it is also one of the most repetitive. I feel that there is only so many times you can repackage the same old dead Marine case before it begins to grow old. However, most will not agree because many fans began watching NCIS on cable television marathons. I have been watching NCIS since its slow beginnings in 2003. Unlike most drama series, NCIS has gained Nielsen ratings with age, probably due to the marathons on cable television. Last season was NCIS's tenth season on television, and it was the most watched television series out of all networks. In February, it was renewed for an eleventh season, making it the second most successful spinoff on television behind only Law & Order: SVU. Many seem to forget that NCIS is a spinoff of popular military drama JAG, which lasted ten seasons and has now been surpassed in length by its own spinoff. NCIS has very little that a viewer can complain about. The characters are certainly in a league of their own, and they are definitely what makes the series different than the average crime drama. Some of the more personal arks are the most popular on the show, but some of the cases are becoming a bit too repackaged. As I stated before, there are only so many dead military officers that they can investigate before audiences begin to grow uninterested. CBS could end the series while it is on top, but they will probably ride the NCIS bandwagon until it reaches its lowest point.
