6 Missing Game Of Thrones Characters That Should Return In Season 6
4. 'Greatjon' Umber
When House Stark declared war on House Lannister after the arrest of Eddard Stark, Robb Stark was joined by a number of his father's Lords bannermen, including Rickard Karstark and Roose Bolton, though neither of these were formally cast until season two. In season one, when the conflict began, his most prevalent follower was 'Greatjon' Umber, a towering man who was the first to proclaim Robb 'The King In The North'.
Umber disappeared from screen shortly afterwards, long before the Northern campaign fell apart due to the Red Wedding that resulted in Robb's death. Interestingly, the Greatjon was said not to be at the wedding on a Twitter post by series producer Bryan Cogman.
In the books, the Greatjon does attend the wedding and is taking captive in the aftermath, but some Northern Lords are not content to live under Bolton rule following their treachery. Chief amongst them is Wyman Manderly, the Lord of White Harbour, who offers Davos Seaworth his support for Stannis' Baratheon's campaign if Davos can help him put a Stark back in Winterfell by locating Eddard's youngest son, Rickon.
As Manderly was not introduced in season five and the prevailing consensus amongst the show's writers now seems to be to merge the roles of various characters rather than to introduce new ones, the Greatjon would seem like an ideal candidate to re-introduce as a symbol of Northern resistance. Though Stannis is now seemingly dead on screen, Sansa Stark has escaped from Bolton custody into the wilderness and will be in need of support, which Umber's house should be on hand to give if 'the North remembers' has any clout to it as a statement.
