7 Things Iron Fist Season 2 MUST Learn From Luke Cage Season 2
6. Make A Dull Character Interesting
Shades is a prime example of a somewhat wooden villain re-imagined with some depth of character. In Season 1 of Luke Cage, he was a fairly generic gangster type, who had a rather remarkable talent for survival, but was kind of drab in every other respect.
But Season 2 changed everything for Shades, with his complex and undying love for Mariah Dillard and equally turbulent friendship with gangster colleague Che. Shades was placed on the emotional pedestal, and his newfound intensity allowed him to take center stage for every scene he appeared in.
The only surefire way of engaging the audience with a character is to provide a layered personality, with all the small touches that come with it. And that doesn't mean they need excessive screen time either. Iron Fist Season 1 had a whole range of family members and office employees who should have been conceived with just that little extra bit of detail.
A three dimensional once-over for all these sideline characters could transform Iron Fist into a fully engrossing experience where every occurrence has a positive effect on the viewers.
