With one of the most interesting premises of any science fiction series, Life On Mars constantly keeps audiences guessing right up until the last second of its final series, never fully explaining what the viewer has just witnessed.

First broadcast in 2006, Life On Mars follows lead character Sam Tyler, played by John Simm, who after a horrific accident ends up back in 1973, and sees him continue to work as a Policeman all whilst adjusting to life in 1973 and figuring out who he is or how he got there. Is he mad, back in time, or just in a coma? These three questions play havoc with Sam and the plot lines across the sixteen episodes of the show.

The generational differences also add some brilliant comedy to the series, with things commonplace in 2006 such as personal computers and mobile phones being mentioned by Sam much to the confusion of his colleagues.

Much of the great moments in the show involve Tyler clashing with his no nonsense boss, DCI Gene Hunt portrayed by Philip Glenister, who's old fashioned view of policing is totally at odds with that of Tyler's.

With a third series currently in the works with both Glenister and Simm reportedly reprising their roles, there's never been a better time to dive into the strange world of Life On Mars.
