Agents Of SHIELD: 10 Reasons Season 2 Is A Massive Improvement
3. Phil Coulson Back At His Best
The loveable, no-nonsense agent of the Marvel movies has gone through a lot since his death at the hands of Loki in The Avengers and has spent a large part of the show angst ridden. Rarely has the fun, slightly goofy Coulson who asked Captain America to sign his trading cards been seen. For the start of this season, Phil suffered a new affliction, the need to carve Kree symbols which almost cost him his sanity. As the season has progressed, however, the old Phil has started to emerge. Discovering that the symbols were a plan of the underground city cured his compulsion and he has been able to become the clear headed tactician again. Some of his old sparkle has returned too, dancing with May and becoming a father figure to Skye again. Phil's new role as the saviour of SHIELD also suits him and the show. His job involving decisions that have potentially huge and global implications. Moments such as when he tells Bobbi that 'collateral damage' is unacceptable remind everyone that no-one is better qualified to have this kind of responsibility. Coulson is a true hero.
