AHS has survived several different iterations over the years, and while some have been more compelling than others, nothing has been able to compete with the show’s first four seasons. During this time, the anthology series not only had the best cast it’s ever had, it also had its strongest concepts and storylines. The series was also uncomfortable viewing back then and, save for Roanoke, the last few seasons haven’t been all that scary, and the less said about Cult the better.

Apocalypse boasted a return to form early on, but Return to Murder House is the kind of episode we were hoping this crossover would give us. It’s dark, disturbing and completely camp, but it’s also incredibly powerful, and the majority of the show’s mainstays are present in some shape or form. It goes to show that the magic of American Horror Story really is still there, and hopefully this will be a sign of things to come in the future in regards to the standard of the show.
