American Horror Story: Ranking Every Evan Peters Character From Worst To Best

3. James Patrick March

Evan Peters American Horror Story
FX

In spite of Kai's brilliance, when we're discussing mentally twisted and sadistic characters, James Patrick March is at the very top of that list. The ghostly serial killer occupied quite a big role in Hotel, and the character proved to be one of Season 5's greatest offerings.

While March became more prominent in Hotel's later episodes, this is really the first time the horror series utilised Peters in more of a supporting capacity. It oddly worked, as March was incredibly seductive, and the less we saw of him, the more we craved, which was likely the intention of showrunners Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

March was Peters' first truly great role since Asylum because, as enjoyable as Freak Show's Jimmy Darling proved to be, the material the young actor was given in the third and fourth seasons of the show simply wasn't as strong as it had been in the past.

While all of his characters possess something of an inner darkness, March was the first role in which Peters was able to highlight his ability to portray an outwardly vindictive and truly horrifying creature. He truly excelled as March, which remains his greatest villain on the series to date.
