Archer: EVERY Season Ranked Worst To Best

5. Season Five: Archer Vice

Archer show
20th Television

Archer's fifth outing was the first time the show was turned on its head. And, boy, does it pay off. With ISIS headquarters destroyed in the first episode, it set up a wide range of possibilities for the characters and their next big adventures. It's safe to say, though, that the gang becoming drug dealers wasn't on the top of the list of possible outcomes.

Whilst the main plot is exciting and often very, painfully funny, the true power of Archer Vice is the subplots. You've got Cheryl becoming a country music star; Pam's cocaine addiction (okay, yes, this one gets annoying, but it starts off as a touch of brilliance); and an entire episode dedicated to Kenny goddamn Loggins. Pair all of this with some of the show's best guest stars - Christian Slater, Lauren Cohan, and the aforementioned Loggins - and this is Archer at its most compelling and well crafted.

In a lot of ways, Season Five watches like one big experiment, a season put in place to see just how much the writers could mess up the show's original dynamic. Some arcs last a little too long, including Pam's drug addiction, and story-line revolving around who fathered Lana's baby is...well, a touch too obvious, really, to be massively engaging.

Overall, though, this is what Archer is capable of, and the whole season is a clear risk worth taking.
