Better Call Saul: Ranking Every Main Character From Worst To Best

4. Gus Fring

Lalo Salamanca Better Call Saul
AMC

Gustavo Fring is the owner of the fast food chain Los Pollos Hermanos by day, and a ruthless meth kingpin by night. One of the most memorable and popular characters from Breaking Bad, Gus debuts in the third season of Better Call Saul and the quality of the show raises almost instantly.

Giancarlo Esposito is simply fantastic as the sociopathic mastermind who manages to fake emotion in front of his customers, before turning cold and cruel in front of his business associates. Gus is a calm and methodical presence, which makes his few moments of outward anger all the more impactful.

His quiet, seething rage building as prepares to destroy one of his restaurants in the fifth season is one of the many highlights for such a brilliant character. Gus is an enthralling villain and at times can be terrifying! It's a joy to see such a scene-stealing character get more screen time since his run on Breaking Bad.

That being said, despite already appearing in more episodes of Better Call Saul than he did Breaking Bad, Fring hasn't moved the narrative in nearly the same way. Gus drove the momentum of the third and fourth seasons of Breaking Bad, but here he is more of a side character. Watching him control the events behind the scenes is interesting, although Better Call Saul is limited in what they can do due to what the character will do later on. Still, you can't help but want more of him.
