The Big Bang Theory: 10 Moments When Sheldon Cooper Was Wrong
7. That's Just Not Cricket
Episode: The Jiminy Tree Conjecture The cricket dispute was perhaps the most pedantic in the show's history. And Sheldon loves a pedantic dispute. Well... when he's right, anyway. Sheldon insists that the insect he, Howard and Raj can hear is a snowy tree cricket. After making a bet with Howard, who believes it is an ordinary field cricket, the three conduct a search for it, all through the apartment and even in the perpetually busted elevator. Eventually, they find it; but they still can't agree on the type of cricket Toby/Jiminy is (or whether Toby is a stupid name for a cricket or not). They take him to the ill-tempered Professor Crawley, an entomologist and the world's leading expert on the dung beetle, who informs them that it is indeed a field cricket. And that yes, Toby is a stupid name for it. Defeated, Sheldon goes to his safety deposit box to retrieve an old, rare comic for Howard. Maybe he won't risk such prized items on a bet in the future but then again, with an ego that can only be described as Sheldon-Sized, probably not.
