Class: 8 Reasons To Be Excited About The Doctor Who Spin-Off

5. Patrick Ness Is Writing It

A Monster Calls
Focus Features

Though the initial idea to set a show in Coal Hill School was dreamt up by the BBC, everything else about Class comes from the mind of Patrick Ness. A name which, if you don't know already, you'll probably hear a lot about in the near future.

Ness is currently one of the hottest names around in Young Adult Literature, thanks to his many hit novels, e.g. The Chaos Walking trilogy, The Rest of Us Just Live Here and More Than This. Having conquered that field, he's now branching out into screenwriting. As well as working on Class, Ness has adapted his own novel A Monsters Calls into an upcoming movie starring Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver and Liam Neeson. Arriving in December, it is predicted to be a critical smash and a potential Oscar winner.

Going by this CV, it is fair to say that Class has a good chance of being a high-quality product. Ness is known for writing smart, emotional, character-led stuff and, from what we've seen so far, this looks set to continue in Class.
