John Goodman is the guest star with perhaps the longest run on Community.

Goodman is an actor with such a range of movies and TV shows that even someone with a passing glimpse into film and TV would likely have seen him. Goodman rose to fame in the series Roseanne, in which he played Dan Conners. He has also been in a number of Coen Brothers movies including O Brother Where Art Thou? and perhaps most famously The Big Lebowski.

Alongside this, he is well known for being the voice of Sully in Monsters Inc. and its sequel, Monsters University.

Goodman came into Community at the beginning of the third season as Vice Dean Layborne, who leads the Air Conditioning Repair Annexe. He begins by having a rivalry with Dean Pelton, showing him how in control he is running the Annexe. He develops a desire to get Troy to join when he sees how good at repairs he is. He eventually does get Troy to join but is then murdered by his second in command, prompting Troy to take over the Annexe and force them to function like a proper school.
