Community: The 10 Most Hated Episodes

2. Intro To Felt Surrogacy (Season 4, Episode 9)

Tossing out your old showrunner and hiring new ones who have barely written for television before is generally a bad idea. The only thing that could make that idea even worse is if the old showrunner had a very specific style and tone to his writing that is almost impossible to replicate. Despite Harmon’s inimitable flair, the new creative team decided to go ahead and try to write a genre-busting episode anyway. What they wanted was a classic like Basic Lupine Urology or Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas. What they got was Intro to Felt Surrogacy.

This is the sort of thing that Community used to make fun of. The study group are all refusing to speak to one another, so Dean Pelton gives them all puppets to communicate their feelings through and the rest of the episode is a recap through this medium.

The story is boring, the songs are ear-bleedingly bad and the ultimate reason for the study group’s initial frostiness is so underwhelming that you wonder why on Earth you sat through all this in the first place.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
