Doctor Who: The 10 Most Pathetic Plans Put Forward By Villains

6. The Rani, Her Brain, and Strange Matter

The Rani gathers a number of great minds€”including a handful of Earth's noted historical geniuses and the Doctor€”to create a rather large brain. She needs the help of this mass mind to deal with an asteroid composed of strange matter, as part of a larger plot to develop a time manipulating device out of an entire planet via a chronon shell process so that she may rewrite evolution as she sees fit. What Makes This Pathetic? The entire idea of recruiting a group of geniuses as minions also means the risk that they may devote their resources to delaying or sabotaging one's plans. Though perhaps the use of Earthlings and the Doctor, a relatively dim Time Lord, indicate some level of planning for this aspect. Perhaps the Rani gathered minds just smart enough to solve her obstacle, but potentially unable to stop her larger plan. However, such an argument is weakened when one considers that she was ultimately defeated by a local's sacrifice and the Doctor. It is mainly the Rani seemed so entirely unprepared for anything to go wrong that makes this such a weak outing. But then the Rani never seems particularly phased with the outcome of any plan, so perhaps it is an unfair standard. Let us move from one case of poor planning to another.
