Doctor Who: 10 Things Karen Gillan Has Done Since Leaving
7. She Ate A Lightbulb
If there's one thing you can call Karen Gillan's career choices, it's versatile. After making her film debut as a ditzy author in a heartwarming wee Scottish rom-com, her next big screen outing was to be a psychological thriller which required her to take on the persona of an obsessive and troubled young woman who was convinced that her childhood home was the subject of an otherworldly phenomenon. In Oculus, released earlier this year by the producers of Paranormal Activity, Karen stepped into the shoes of Kaylie Russell and teamed up with her reluctant on-screen brother (Brenton Thwaites) to transform the scene of their parents' unexplained deaths into a study of supernatural surveillance. The answers seemingly lay within a mystical mirror but the most memorable moment from the film is a scene in which a possessed Kaylie bites into a lightbulb mistaking it for an apple. The whole thing escalates really quickly. Oculus is available to buy on DVD and Blu-ray now.
