Doctor Who: 11 Iconic Things From Matt Smith's Era

5. Tweed Jacket

Doctor Who Tweed Jacket Here again, we go to the cosplayers and we see what they wore as Eleven. Obviously, they all have the same tweed jacket, blue shirt, and red bowtie as shown here (no arguments about the purple frock coat please). I think that a tweed jacket is an interesting choice for Eleven €“ it€™s the final piece of the end of the Raggedy Doctor, the one from Amy€™s stories, and a new Doctor who has a nice jacket and a good(ish) style. I say -ish because come on, it€™s a tweed jacket. A lot of people see tweed as something old men wear, which plays into the Doctor's age. And in that aspect the costuming makes sense €“ it represents this quality because this is the oldest Doctor, and we see that throughout his seasons. Lines such as €œI€™m worse than anyone€™s aunt.€ and €œDon€™t try to to keep something from me, don€™t ever ever think you€™re capable of that" make this easily apparent. These are both quotes that gives us a sense of seriousness, and a sense of how old the Doctor truly is, throughout the season. But we all know that in the end it€™s really down to the actors and Moffat going back and forth. Here's the process €“ Matt wanted a tweed jacket, Moffat said no, Matt put on the tweed jacket, Moffat said yes, and I believe this was the same with the Fez, the bowtie and the Stetson. At this point there isn€™t a lot of metaphorical reasons behind why they choose what they choose to wear €“ the actors just pick something they like.

I'm currently attending my local college while trying to figure out who I am. I love Doctor Who, Sherlock, really any BBC show. I've also been told I'm a bit of a nerd. Specifically, a theatre nerd.
