Doctor Who: 5 Ways To Bring Back Paul McGann For More On Screen Adventures

2. A Spin Off Eighth Doctor TV Show Adapting His Big Finish Stories

Blood Of The Daleks 1 Now let's continue this article with the assumption that the BBC has the budget to make a spin off series. After all, we had two at one point, with only one (Torchwood) having a glimmer of a chance of reappearing again.(Sadly the passing of Elizabeth Sladen ended The Sarah Jane Adventures). What's better than one Doctor Who series? Two Doctor Who Series! To be honest, this isn't a new thought to me. I mused about an Eighth Doctor spin off series in an article of mine looking at TV Spin Offs That Need To Happen back in July. (I almost discussed the possibility of a Jenny / Vastra / Strax spin - off series too). With the buzz over the 'Night Of The Doctor', surely there must be an appetite now for more Eighth Doctor on our screens? The first option the makers of such a series could take would be to mine the many fantastic stories Paul McGann has performed on for Big Finish. Personally I wouldn't be in favour of this because a) 'Night Of The Doctor' made the companions from those stories canon, so the Big Finish stories have already technically happened and b) audiences can go and listen to those stories already. That being said, a televised remake of some of those stories would make for terribly good viewing. My choice? 'Blood Of The Daleks' which started the journey of The Eighth Doctor with Lucie Miller (played by TV regular Sheridan Smith). It's suitably epic with a world facing a holocaust in the wake of a asteroid that hit the planet, a mad scientist creating a new race of monsters and the Daleks themselves at their most menacing. However I won't claim to list all the stories that could be adapted. Big Finish stories are something I'm finally starting to get into now, having spent the last few years introducing myself to Classic Who. No, I've leave that to fellow WhatCulture writer Jamahl Simmons and his brilliant article 8 Ways To Get To Know The Eighth Doctor to tell you all you nee to know.
