Doctor Who 50th Anniversary: Did It Deliver?

The End Of An Era: Were Those Unanswered Questions Resolved?

Whether a Christmas special was the right place to tie up the Eleventh Doctor's story threads or not, we did get the main answers we need. I'm sure audiences will continue to question little things here or there but personally I felt satisfied, knowing that all the big plot points had reached a resolution. In true Doctor Who timey wimey fashion, the story threads jump back all over the place between The Eleventh Hour and The Time Of The Doctor, so I'm boldly attempting to put in in some form of chronological order... The Doctors saved Gallifrey in the final moments of the Time War, locking it in another alternate universe. The cracks in time and space allow Gallifrey to send a message to the Doctor, only it attracts all the worst elements of the universe. Fortunately the Papal Mainframe gets there first, blocks the planet Trenzalore and thus stops the Doc tor from answering the oldest question - Doctor Who? The revelation of his name will allow the Timelords to return to the Galaxy and start Time War II. The siege of Trenzalore begins. The Doctor is forced to defend Trenzalore from his enemies, knowing this is the only chance to bring Gallifrey back, but knowing it will start the war again. The Papal Mainframe changes the nature of its religion to 'Silence Will Fall'; their mission to stop the Doctor saying his name. The Kovarian sect. unhappy with how things are progressing, travel back through the Doctor's timeline, intended to stop the Doctor ever getting to Trenzalore. They create the Pandorica, only it goes a little wrong and the galaxy is destroyed as the Tardis explodes, creating cracks in space and time. Ironically it is the creation of these cracks that allow Gallifrey to send their message in the first place. The Kovarian sect step up their game plan. Aided by rogue Silence, they infiltrate Earth and kidnap Amy and Rory's baby River, turning her into an assassin that will kill the Doctor. The Doctor is apparently killed by River Song at lake Silenco. The Kovarian Sect, along with the rest of the universe, believe the Doctor dead. Instead the Doctor outwits them, marries his assassin and sort of goes into hiding. The Doctor eventually reaches Trenzalore in the future when fighting the Great Intelligence. (Then we head back to point 1: I told you it was timey wimey!) As to the Eleventh actually being the last of the Doctors...well that is bigger than one Doctor's story. Which takes us onto the next page...
