Doctor Who: 8 Past Roles Proving Keeley Hawes' Casting Is Awesome

1. Line Of Duty (2014)

Finally we come to Line Of Duty, the BBC's recent police drama in which Keeley Hawes joined the cast this year for season 2 playing DI Linsday Denton, the sole survivor of a police convoy ambush turned suspect for orchestrating the aforementioned crime. Hawes brings the most recognisable presence to this relatively unknown (but stunning) cast but it is clear that she was not brought in for this reason (or, at least, not just this reason). Line Of Duty seemingly has a tradition of bringing in a big name actor to headline their talented main players €“ last year it was the brilliant Lennie James, who Americans might know as Morgan Jones from The Walking Dead €“ as she delivers a brilliantly deep performance as a suspect of the crime she fell victim to. Obviously I won't give anything away €“ just watch it, it's awesome €“ but rest assured she's excellent, giving a layered, complex turn oscillating between wronged woman and strangely psychotic villain. Clearly, this stands her in good stead for a villainous Doctor Who role, and if they choose to play the ambiguity card like they have with Jed Mercurio's drama, you know that Hawes can handle it with aplomb. You've got enough time between now and the speculative "autumn" airing date of Doctor Who series 8 €“ when we will finally see the Twelfth Doctor in action and Ms Delphox come to life €“ to take this on board, so there's only one big question; why don't you? Are there any key roles you think I've missed out? And am I the only person hoping that Ms Delphox becomes another Madame Kovarian-like recurring character rather than a one-off, or is that just because of the eyewear and big hair? Let me know in the comments!
