Doctor Who: 10 Actresses Who Could Replace Jenna Coleman

10. Kelly Adams

Why she should be next: Kelly Adams is a British actress who is probably best known for her work in the BBC series Hustle, in which she played Emma Kennedy, one of the team's main con artists, from Series 5 through to Series 8. She acted opposite superb actors such as Adrian Lester and Robert Vaughn and held her own with ease, suggested she€™d also be able to manage opposite Capaldi. Her strengths include a fire and toughness - the foundations of a strong dynamic to have for any actress playing opposite the Doctor. This could be used to introduce a role reversal within the TARDIS, with the the companion mellowing rather than Capaldi€™s incarnation of the Time Lord. This would make for some interesting character drama to keep the viewers hooked. She can also do vulnerability well, a no doubt useful attribute for making the viewers like you whilst facing the various horrors of the universe. Why she shouldn€™t be: She was debatably the least versatile of the Hustle crew. While the likes of Robert Glenister and Lester were transforming believably for the different roles the con artists would play each week, there was rarely the sense that Adams could transform herself in the same way. Often the different roles her character would have to play felt less imbued with less realism than the ones embodied by her co-stars. While realism isn€™t necessarily the key strength of the Doctor Who universe and she could probably no doubt pull a great performance out of the bag, it€™s still a potential cause for concern. She€™s also been a bit unmemorable in a couple of guest roles for shows designed to fill the Doctor Who slot. She had a bit part that no one really remembers in the 2006 Robin Hood series and, while this wouldn€™t necessarily mean she couldn€™t pull off the role of Capaldi€™s new companion, it€™s another cause for concern, especially as the actress filling the role next will have to stand out against the countless others from throughout the show€™s long history.
