Doctor Who: 10 Reasons David Tennant Deserved His Special Recognition Award

6. He's Versatile

Tennant is famous for playing romantic figures like Casanova and the lead in Single Father but there are more strings to his rather fetching bow than serial shagger and foppish gadabout. Just before he appeared as the Doctor, he hit ITV screens as a thoroughly manipulative psychopath in Secret Smile. Then he branched out during his tenure to become a repressed driving instructor in Jessica Hynes€™ Learners. He left the TARDIS to take on a nasty role as a career MP in The Politician€™s Husband before finding a mega hit all over again as tortured €˜tec Alec Hardy in Broadchurch, a crusader who€™s a far cry from the touchy feely world of timey-wimey adventures. Like his Casanova co-star Laura Fraser, Tennant managed to fool everyone that he speaks with a cut glass English accent, whereas actually he€™s as Scottish as a caber tangled in a clump of thistles.
