Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Last Christmas Was The Perfect Waking Dream

1. The Constant Companion

Last Christmas started slow with too many disparate elements muddled together in a confusing mess. Patience was amply rewarded, however, as the story revealed rich layers of deeper meaning. As each piece was peeled away viewers were given another part of this fascinating and intricate puzzle. The Christmas setting and Santa Claus character were rather incidental but still added light and laughter to a story that might otherwise have fallen prey to an unrelenting gloom. Is it a good thing that Clara is returning for Series 9? Her character is intriguing and complicated and, if allowed to evolve, she could be well worth following up on. She may, however, wear out her welcome if she is not allowed to grow and breathe. The hug notwithstanding, one can still feel a sense of growing distance between her and the Doctor that may not bode well for future storylines. They are like a couple on the verge of divorce who agree to keep trying for the sake of the children. It remains to be seen whether their relationship can survive the lies it was built on. What do you think of the list? Was Last Christmas a classic? Join the conversation with your fellow fans in the comments section below.
