Doctor Who: 10 Things You Need To Know About The Christmas Special
6. The Cast
Aside from Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman, Last Christmas stars Nick Frost as old Saint Nick himself - Santa Claus, alongside Nathan McMullen and Dan Starkey as Wolf and Ian the elves. Michael Troughton, Natalie Gumede and Faye Marsay have also been cast, in unknown roles. The most intriguing character here is of course Santa himself. Glimpsed briefly in the prelude at the end of Series 8, Santa indicated that a happy Christmas was in store for the Doctor and Clara. He says We need to get this sorted - and quickly. Get what sorted exactly? A happily ever after for Clara, perhaps? Maybe Santa can bequeath the gift of life and bring Danny Pink back to the realm of the living. Cheesy, yes, but Moffat down to a tee. Santa Clause appears to know the Doctor, calling him by name when he knocks upon the TARDIS door and yet the Doctor seems genuinely perplexed by his appearance. What does this mean then? Perhaps its simply because Santa knows who has been good and who has been bad, and the Doctor has been very bad of late That said, Santa most definitely isnt bad. At the recent Series 8 DVD launch Steven Moffat said:
Santa could never be evil, for heaven's sake! Santa is both real and a Christmas hero; any parents who are worried about that, Santa is presented as he is in real life - a great Christmas hero!
Of course Moffat is nefariously renown for lying. Dont be surprised if Santa turns out to be a monster from Mars.
