Doctor Who: 9 Funniest Episodes Of The Revived Series

6. The Unicorn And The Wasp

Let's be honest, how could the Tenth Doctor and Donna not be included on this list?! And you can be sure that this won't be the only time they'll pop up on it, too, but let's start with one of their most memorable episodes, The Unicorn and the Wasp, in which they joined forces with the world's most famous crime novelist, Agatha Christie, to solve the case of a mysterious murder. And no, this isn't to say that there's anything even remotely funny about murder, but when you find out that the culprit was a gigantic wasp, it kind of takes the 'sting' - *ahem* - out of it, don't you think? Besides, this is an episode that isn't supposed to be taken seriously. How can it be when the Doctor gets poisoned by cyanide (again, not funny - but he was never really going to die, was he?) and detoxifies his body in an hilarious sequence which involves him raiding the kitchen for ginger beer, salt (that's too salty!) and anchovies, before snogging the face off Catherine Tate? What's more, the episode focuses on the process of solving the crime rather than the crime itself (after all, don't all good murder mysteries?), and the Doctor and Donna's investigations are guaranteed to leave you rolling around on the floor in hysterics. Donna getting excited about the prospect of Noddy being real deserves a special mention, as does her stellar reaction to seeing the Vespiform for the first time ("It's... flipping... enormous!"). Catherine Tate's on top form throughout, really, so it's a real shame that it's one of NuWho's most underrated episodes. You win some, you lose some.
