Doctor Who: Every Dalek Story In The New Series Ranked WORST To BEST
4. The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang (2010)
Much like in The Time of the Doctor, the Daleks only appear in The Pandorica Opens as part of an alliance working against our favourite Time Lord. The next episode features a single ancient Dalek on display in the British Museum being resurrected by the light from the Pandorica and chasing our heroes around the building for part of the runtime.
To draw another parallel to The Time of the Doctor, the Daleks are not an integral part of the narrative. In fact, it almost feels as though the Dalek in the Big Bang is only there so that our heroes are not just idly wandering around a museum for forty-five minutes.
Therefore, this two-parter’s status as a true Dalek story may be in dispute. But its reputation as one of the best series finales is not.
Moffat deliberately subverts what the audience had come to expect from Davies era finales, a massive showdown for the fate of the universe, and instead delivers a quieter, more personal story that provides intriguing commentary on the relationship between Amelia Pond and her Raggedy Doctor.
