Doctor Who: Every Doctor's WORST Episode

6. Eighth Doctor - The TV Movie (1996)

It is admittedly cruel and unusual to pick the Eighth Doctor’s only full-length outing on screen as his worst, considering that he was robbed of any further opportunities to endear himself to a television audience. Unless you count the 2013 short, ‘The Night of the Doctor’ of course.

So we’ll go easy on poor old Paul McGann. The TV movie, for all its faults, does actually have a lot to like. It’s never in doubt that The Eighth Doctor is the next incarnation of our favourite Time Lord, bolstered by a sterling performance from McGann. Daphne Ashbrook as Dr. Grace Holloway also fits very snugly into the role of companion and a return from her someday would no doubt be welcomed by fans.

Still, it is perhaps for the best that the movie was never developed into a full TV series for Fox, as was initially intended. Despite its new and flashy visuals, the story still suffers from the sluggish pacing that the classic series is often criticised for and wasn’t exactly keen on reinventing the Doctor Who formula for a new audience.

It would be nearly another decade before Doctor Who made a proper return to our screens. Enter Russell T Davies…

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
