Doctor Who: Every Doctor's WORST Episode
5. The Unquiet Dead (The Ninth Doctor)
To say that the new series of Doctor Who, when it returned in 2005, was a smash hit would be a massive understatement. It blew all of the other shows scheduled against it out of the water, set BBC1 ratings history, and made its stars household names overnight.
So to declare that Christopher Eccleston’s one series delivered its worst episode just three weeks in might seem a little odd. But The Unquiet Dead, Mark Gatiss’s first writing credit for the show, is not even a particularly awful episode. It’s just exceedingly average and pails in comparison to the great stories it’s surrounded by.
The Gelth are a spooky concept appropriate for the dark Victorian setting and their appearance really shows off what New Who CGI could be at its best, but the supporting characters and overall plot are just a fairly run of the mill historical.
Keep an eye out for Eve Myles debuting in the Doctor Who world before she became the beloved Gwen Cooper in Torchwood just a year later.
