Doctor Who: Everything We Just Learned At Comic-Con 2021

1. Game Of Thrones Star Jacob Anderson Will Play A Major New Character Called Vinder

This is where fan expectations got seriously out of control. Although, to be fair, what did the BBC expect when they teased that a super-duper special surprise guest would be appearing on the panel?

Everyone was guessing that it'd be David Tennant, Jo Martin, or even Catherine Tate, but in the end, the reveal wasn't really as "OMG" as many had hoped it would be.

In reality, it was Jacob Anderson, an actor who most people will recognise from Game Of Thrones. As Grey Worm, Anderson joined the show in its third year, and against all the odds, he ended up making it all the way to the end, surviving the absolute bloodbath that was season eight.

In Doctor Who, Anderson will play a character called Vinder, who has been described as a recurring character throughout the series. While the initial assumption is that he'll be a good guy, some of the comments made by the panellists could indicate that he'll be a thorn in the Doctor's side at times - and hell, his introductory picture (below) certainly gives off an anti-hero vibe.

Right now, the main theory is that he's another incarnation of the Doctor, just like Ruth was in Series 12. During the panel, Anderson even mentioned that he's got his own ship, so could he be referring to a version of the TARDIS?

As ever, time will tell. But regardless of the truth, there's a feeling in the air that Vinder will be far more than just a bog-standard guest character.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
