9. Noel Clarke
Poor Mickey. Say what you like about Rose's on/off beau but he sure as hell had a rough old time of it in the TARDIS, didn't he? After being abandoned by his girlfriend without a second thought and subsequently accused of her murder, he remained at her constant beck and call while she went gallivanting through the universe in a blue box and it took a series and a half for him to finally summon up the courage to declare that enough was enough. And thank God he did, because Mickey's transformation from 'Ricky the idiot' to bonafide hero is one of the best cases of character development that Doctor Who has ever seen. He has since become a freelance Earth defender alongside his new wife, Martha Jones (hold on... when did that happen!?), so at least his fans can rest easy in the knowledge that he's finally grown a pair of balls. And it was about time, too. And what about his real life alter ego, Noel Clarke, you ask? Well, clearly not content with leaving his mark on just one formidable sci-fi franchise, he crossed over to the other side in 2013 (it's OK, Noel - we forgive you!) when he appeared in Star Trek Into Darkness and a year earlier he starred in the indie horror film Storage 24, which he also wrote and produced. Speaking of Noel's writing credits, he's also been making a name for himself behind the camera, too. He won the Rising Star award at the 2009 BAFTAs for his work on Kidulthood and its subsequent sequel, Adulthood, and in 2010 he wrote and co-directed the crime thriller 4.3.2.1 before penning the 2012 drama Fast Girls. Not too shabby for a would be tin dog, eh?
