Doctor Who Review: In The Forest Of The Night - 10 Ways The Story Grew
10. Innocence Lost
Maebh is a child who by current cultural standards sees and hears too much. Her sister is gone and her head is filled with voices she does not recognize. The adults surrounding her deny her reality and refuse to listen to what she is desperate to tell them. Instead they pat her on the head and attempt to medicate this problem child into submission. Even Clara, who is witness to the wonders of the universe, sees nothing beyond what she was told to see. She never questions whether Maebh is experiencing something beyond a psychiatrists text book diagnosis. Misunderstood children are the ones who grow up to challenge the status quo. They are the instigators of change. Maebh is considered the most troubled person in the group, dismissed as the weakest link, and yet she is the only one who sees what is going on.
