Doctor Who Series 10: Everything You Need To Know
10. It’s Peter Capaldi’s Last Series
Peter Capaldi has confirmed that Series 10 will be his last full series as the Doctor, but that he’ll make his very final appearance in this year’s Christmas special. So no regeneration just yet, though it’s a good bet there’ll be some heavy-handed foreshadowing about songs ending, silence falling, or ratings dropping.
It’s a good time for Capaldi to leave, as the 2018 series will also see Chris Chibnall replace Steven Moffat as showrunner. Having a new Doctor introduced at the same time gives Chibnall a clean slate to tell his version of Doctor Who, like Moffat had when he took over, and we’re intrigued to see what Chibbers does with the show – let’s hope it’s more of a Broadchurch Series 1 than a Broadchurch Series 2.
Speculation is already rife about who will replace Capaldi as the new Doctor, with the BBC rumoured to be looking for a younger Doctor to replicate the success of David Tennant and Matt Smith. While some of the rumoured names, including Kris Marshall and Richard Ayoade, could do a solid job, the usual debate about whether we’ll finally get a female Doctor is more fevered than ever and I'd love to see a younger woman - someone like Ruth Negga or Vicky McClure - have a shot at the role. Get your bets placed.
