Doctor Who: Wish World Review - 4 Ups & 6 Downs

1. DOWN - The Twists That Broke The Camel’s Back

I’ve touched on it a few times already, but let’s talk about those last few minutes, and the reveals themselves.

Firstly, Omega. I am in a state of utter disbelief that we’re pulling in yet another classic villain for this finale – apparently, that’s all the show knows how to do anymore. We bought in the Rani, just so she could bring in Omega the following week and immediately play second fiddle. I can’t wait until Omega arrives and reveals his plan to resurrect the Abzorbaloff (who’s also a member of the Pantheon by the way).

Jokes aside, I feel like the show is really starting to reek of desperation now and it’s giving me some major second hand embarrassment. We are scraping the barrel of pop-culture here, watching Russell T Davies smash his action figures together. This trend needs to stop now – please give me something fresh, or failing that, give me the Daleks or the Cybermen so we can at least spend less time on the reveal and more time on the story.

And then there’s Poppy. The captain from Space Babies who has inexplicably returned in the role of the Doctor’s fake daughter. Except, as is revealed in the closing moments of the episode, she isn’t fake? What does this even mean? And how does Fifteen not recognising his daughter in Space Babies make sense for those five people who willingly choose to rewatch it one day?

RTD has already released an interview saying that the finale is going to give us some ‘major shake-ups’ to Gallifrey’s lore. Yippee… just what we wanted. Because that went down super well after The Timeless Children was released.

I think we need to brace for impact on this one, gang.
