Emmys 2016 Nominations: 12 Major Shocks & Snubs

5. Shock - Kit Harington & Maisie Williams Receive Acting Nods

Game of Thrones picking up more Emmy nominations than any other show isn't a shock. Game of Thrones receiving acting nominations isn't a shock, with Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Emilia Clarke all nominated before.

What is a shock, however, is seeing Kit Harington and Maisie Williams receive Supporting Actor/Actress nods. Six seasons into the show, this is the first time either of them has been nominated.

For Harington it's probably a bit more understandable, given the level of chatter around Jon's death and subsequent return, and it's true that he did his best work yet on the show. Williams' nomination is more surprising, because while she is clearly talented, her storyline in Season 6 (until the end) was pretty weak, and her on-screen sister Sophie Turner did stronger work this year.
