Falcon And The Winter Solider- ALL Easter Eggs From Episode 1 Explained
4. What Sam's Family Fishing Business Is All About
Amongst all the cameos and first appearances, there were a couple of details worth noticing that really helped with the post-blip worldbuilding - one of them being Sam’s family boat and business.
The family business doesn’t exist in the comics, so there’s no deep backstory there, but it does help give us some context around Sam’s family situation now and the troubles they faced during the Blip.
Whilst Sam has been away, his sister has been trying to keep the business going to support herself and her sons, having to take out loans to keep her head above water. It has clearly been hard and very stressful and the boat is looking a bit worse for wear.
A decrepit old boat barely staying afloat, weathered and battered by years of hard work in the absence of half the world’s population- now doesn’t that seem like a metaphor for something? This, with the addition of the insight we gained at the bank, really helped give us an idea of what life has been like in that world. They’re all down on money, down on luck and really in need of a good thing coming.
The relationship between Sam and his sister, Sarah, as well as his two nephews, will likely become an important part of his growth and character development. Their family's troubles serve as a reminder that even heroes have very human struggles.
